Our research concentrates mainly on peace and conflict as well as on international organizations. Our teaching, however, is broader, covering the entire spectrum of international relations topics and world regions. Our regional focus, though, is on Eastern EuropeWe follow five guidelines in research and teaching. First, our studies aretheory-guided while at the same time problem-driven; thus, we use theories to explain structures, actors and processes of international relations. Second, we strive for substantial empirical analysis and field work. Third, we are distinctly interdisciplinary, working closely together with neighboring disciplines, such as history, psychology, sociology and international law. Fourth, our studies are practice-oriented, seekiing to transfer our findings to politics and society. Finally, we aim at participative and innovative teaching by emploing teaching formats like simulations, reading courses, field trips or workshops.
